In the present book, Maulana Wahiduddin Khan explains that conversion is a universal and inescapable law of nature. A study of psychology and history tells us that, in order to give a new impetus to an individual or a group and to bring about a moral and intellectual revolution, what is most effective is the sense of discovery. This feeling of having discovered some truth, which was unknown, awakens all the dormant powers of the individual. This feeling turns an ordinary man into a superman. It is such supermen who cross the oceans, who scale mountains and who by their heroic character cause history to enter a new age. Today, human history is once again facing a deadlock. History is once again in need of people who pass through this experience of a discovery. For it is such people, charged with new spiritual power, who will give a strong push to human history to enter a new and a better age.
The book “God Arises” was the result of an exhaustive research by Maulana Wahiduddin Khan to prove monotheistic religious beliefs such as the existence of God through science. It strives, moreover, to demonstrate how 20th century research has, on academic grounds, totally demolished the atheistic claims put forward in the 18th and 19th centuries. The book is now accepted as the standard on Islamic position on modern thought, it has been translated into different languages – English, Arabic, Malay, Turkish, Hindi, Malayalam and Sindhi. In Arabic, it has been translated under the title of Al-Islam Yatahadda and became popular throughout the Arab world and is now accepted as the standard Islamic position on modern thought, it has been incorporated in the curricula of universities at over six Arab countries.
The religion of God is the true, natural religion to adopt. The truth of this suddenly becomes plain in moments of crises. Whatever the religion a man adopts, when the whirlpool of events sends him spiraling downwards to his doom, he forgets all else and turns to God. The theme of this book is evident from its title: Islam Rediscovered: Discovering Islam from its Original Sources. Its purpose, according to the author Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, is to present Islam as it is, drawing on its original sources rather than judging it by the later day interpretations and commentaries or the practices of present day Muslims in different parts of the world. A distinction is made between Islam as presented by Prophet Muhammad and his Companions (information about which is available to us in the Quran and the Sunnah) and Islam as represented by later Muslim generations—both in theory and practice. This is called the scientific approach. Using this approach one can rediscover Islam from its original sources.
