The Purpose of Life explains the Creation Plan of God. The Creation Plan regarding life, which we have been told of by God through His prophets, is that the Creator has created man as an eternal creature, with the first brief span of his life in the pre-death period and the rest of his life—a much longer period—in the post-death period. According to this plan, God created man and settled him in the present world, on the planet earth. God gave man the opportunity to stay here without applying any curbs on his freedom. Man has the right either to use his freedom in a rightful manner, or to misuse it as he pleases. This is his test. When human history has run its course, it will terminate with the Day of Judgement. The happenings on that day will be on an epic scale. Then the Creator of man will manifest Himself in order to mete out rewards or punishments commensurate with the record of human deeds on earth. Those who have passed the test will be blessed with eternal paradise, while those who have failed the test will be cast into eternal hell.

The Quran is the Book of God. It has been preserved in its entirety for all time to come. In the present book, The Quran: An Abiding Wonder, Maulana Wahiduddin Khan, briefly discusses two aspects of the Quran: firstly, its being in itself a proof that it is the Book of God; secondly its complete preservation in its original form, as revealed to the Arab Prophet Muhammad in the seventh century Hijrah. The perfect state of preservation singles out the Quran from its predecessors as a unique vehicle for divine guidance and salvation. Due to its preservation, it is a book that will retain its validity until the Day of Judgment. Apart from this fact, the author discusses the Quran in itself being a proof that it is the Book of God.

In Tazkiyah—Purification of the Soul Maulana Wahiduddin Khan explains that the Quran mentions four responsibilities of the Prophet, one being the purification of the self (2:129). As such it is essential for believers to give utmost priority to the purification of the self in their lives. Similarly, it is necessary for the da‘i and the reformer to attach great importance to the process of purification. Purification (tazkiyah) covers a number of Islamic imperatives: purifying oneself of the temptations of the self and Satan; refraining from negative reaction when faced with unpleasant experiences occasioned by others; and remaining resistant to such influences as cause man to deviate from the straight path, etc. The book outlines various principles of how to undertake tazkiyah within oneself so as to develop a purified personality that may be found eligible for entering the eternal world of paradise (The Quran 20:75).
