The theme of this book is the realization of God. The realization of God is the essence of religion. Realization of God (ma‘arifah) is the beginning as well as the end of religion. The position of ma‘arifah in God’s religion is that of the seed. Just as a seed grows gradually into a full tree, similarly ma‘arifah shapes the entire personality of a person. Without ma‘arifah, religion is reduced to a spiritless form. With ma‘arifah, religion is like a lush green tree and without it, religion becomes like a dried up tree. If religion is the body, ma‘arifah is its spirit. In the book Maulana Wahiduddin Khan explains that the journey of realization begins with a questing spirit. Seeking is an intellectual journey. If a person is sincere and one hundred per cent honest in his search, if there is no negativity in his thinking, if he is free from prejudices, if he has become a completely complex-free soul, attainment of ma‘arifah for him is as certain as the dawn of light after the rising of the sun.

There are many passages in the Quran which urge the reader to ponder over creation, natural phenomena and the universe at large. It is such contemplation in the vast ever-expanding cosmos that aids in understanding the Creator’s majesty and intelligence. This contemplation, however, could be done earlier within a traditional framework. Now this process of reflection and contemplation has become possible within a scientific framework. The meaningfulness, harmony and intelligent design in the universe unfolded by scientific discoveries provide further insight and detail about Quranic references on nature. In the book Global Warming: The Divine Warning of Doomsday, Maulana Wahiduddin Khan explains that the United Nations’ panel of 25,000 scientists from 130 countries submitted a detailed report on global warming, titled 'Warning Signs'. The more appropriate title would have been, 'Warning Signs of Doomsday' as both Quranic revelation and science now confirm that the end of history, Qiyamah, has come very close. God had made this world for a limited period of time for a test. Now, this time is reaching its end. Now the time has finally come for man to awaken, to take lessons from the signs in nature and in history, and plan his life in a way that avails him in his post-death period before Doomsday.

Rather than denying God’s existence, modern science—through its insights into nature and creation—actually leads to a deeper discovery and understanding of the Creator. Scientific findings affirm God’s existence so strongly that denial seems implausible. Authentic science and genuine Divine Guidance, therefore, confirm rather than contradict each other. The discovery that the universe had a definite beginning point to a pre-existing Cause, one that brought it into being. As this book shows that Cause can only be the eternal One God. The universe’s fine-tuning, intricate design, and perfect balance—unveiled by science—can only be attributed to the One Creator: God, the Lord, Master, and Sustainer of the universe and all creation. God’s Word (Divine Revelation) and God’s Work (the Universe) are in perfect harmony.

God is the Creator and Lord of this world. Man has only one thing to give to God and that is to acknowledge Him, and live a God-oriented life. Such a life is a life of taqwa, a cautious life. Man faces various temptations in life. While facing them he should follow the way of taqwa by sedulously keeping away from all temptations and adopting a cautious approach. Two things are very important to live a God-oriented life: sincerity and introspection. That is, to reflect upon everything very seriously and to introspect at all times. These will act as a guarantee of living a God-oriented life, and steering clear of non-godly paths. God-oriented life, in essence, begins with the discovery of God. When individuals, whether men or women, discover God, it means that they have found the truth. And this truth pervades their whole being. Then one starts living a God-oriented life.

Islam gives equal status, rights, and blessings to men and women in this world and the Hereafter. In the early period of Islam, women were fully active in different fields of life, from housework to agriculture to business and from worship in the mosque and outside work. The modern world offers plentiful opportunities for women to choose from remaining within the bounds of modesty and piety. As educators, they can equip an entire generation with standard education and as mothers, they can inculcate ethical training at home. Women can become instrumental in preparing the new generations to become aware, duty-conscious, and spiritual individuals.
